Amy was initially apprehensive about her stay at Rocky Bay’s short-term accommodation in Rockingham.
But when she left Amy was calling Rocky Bay’s ‘Beach House’ home.
The Beach House is one of four Rocky Bay short-term accommodation options, offering respite for customers and their loved ones.
Amy said it was her first time at the Beach House, but her was ‘awesome’.
“The team supported me and made me feel worthy again,” Amy said.
“They were full of encouragement, and I began to feel happy in myself again,” Amy said.
Amy praised the staff for their friendliness and attentiveness.
” If I was feeling low, they’d always come to check on me and spend time with me,” Amy said.
“Even the Team Leader, Adam, would take the time to come out of his office and chat with customers, and helped me navigate the NDIS,” she said.
Amy was able to spend every day doing activities she loved.
“Every morning, the staff would ask, ‘Where do you want to go, and what do you want to do?” Amy said.
“We’d go bowling, watch movies, see my team play footy, attend all-abilities discos, and visit the markets.
“They even remembered my love for ‘Married at First Sight’ and made sure I never missed an episode.
“All the carers and customers would gather to watch it together; it was really nice” Amy said.
Amy maintains a strong connection with the staff since her stay finished.
“The staff still message me to check how I’m doing. It’s hard to leave something so good,” Amy said.
Looking forward to hopefully returning to the Beach House in the future, Amy encourages anyone considering a stay at a Rocky Bay Guest house to give it a try.
“Just put your nerves aside and go enjoy yourself and take a break,” Amy said.
“It’s such a good experience – getting out into the community like that is so good for your mental health.
“I want to go back there,” Amy concluded.
