An accessible merry-go round is making inclusive play possible for children and families at Rocky Bay’s Lady Lawley Cottage, thanks to generous funding from Telethon.

A generous grant from the Channel 7 Telethon Trust has funded the inclusive play equipment at the Cottesloe Hub.

The merry-go-round allows one wheelchair and two ambulant children to ride at any given time, and was part of Stage One works, complimenting upgrades to enhance the accessibility of the facility.

Rocky Bay Managing Director Michael Tait said the latest addition to the playground enhanced the site’s long standing legacy as a vibrant and welcoming hub, while meeting contemporary disability standards.

“With only a few accessible merry-go-rounds in Perth, we are proud to bring one to our Hub by the Sea,” Mr Tait said.

“This creates an inclusive opportunity for families attending therapy sessions, where customers and their siblings can now enjoy a turn during therapy breaks, making the experience more positive for everyone.

“Lady Lawley Cottage’s emphasis on building social interactions through programs like friendship groups is further supported by the new merry-go-round.

“This inclusive play equipment provides a welcoming space where children can socialise, develop key life skills and form friendships,” Mr Tait said.

Mr Tait praised Telethon for their ongoing support.

“Rocky Bay cannot thank the Channel 7 Telethon Trust enough for helping us improve accessibility and inclusion for our community,” Mr Tait said.

“Their ongoing philanthropic support of Rocky Bay has been a lifeline, creating countless opportunities to improve the lives of West Australians living with disabilities,” Mr Tait concluded.
