We recently had a chat with Jess, Clinical Operations Manager at Rocky Bay’s Rockingham Hub. Jess shares insights into her role, career journey and the programs making a difference to our Rocky Bay customers .
Can you tell me about your role as the Clinical Operations Manager and what a typical day looks like for you?
My role is to support the therapy team at the Rockingham Hub. Each day is different and may involve meeting new customers, working on projects and coaching our amazing therapists.
What inspired you to pursue this career path?
Throughout my career as a Physiotherapist, I have loved working in an environment with a supportive multidisciplinary team and being able to support a variety of customers. In addition to coaching and mentoring my peers, working at Rocky Bay was a natural choice.
What do you love most about your job?
I love working with my team, the work life balance that this job allows and the opportunities I am given regular to work on projects that I am passionate about that will benefit our customers and staff.
Can you explain the Go for Goals program and how it supports individuals in achieving their therapy goals?
Go for Goals (GFG) one of these passion projects I mentioned above. I helped create GFG to allow me to provide timely services to our customers who need them while they were waiting on long waitlists. GFG allows customers to work with a therapist on a targeted goal over a 4-week period.
Are there any success stories or moments from the Go for Goals program that have resonated with you?
Go for Goals has had many success stories, however one that has stayed with me is a 4 year old that received services via GFG within 2 months, achieving some small but significant goals, invaluable parent coaching and supporting with the transition to kindy. Without GFG they wouldn’t have received critical early intervention and would have likely waited 12-18 months.
What keeps you motivated in your role?
The passion of my staff to support their customers using evidenced based practice to work towards goals. A prime example of this is that last week a customer graduated from speech therapy after 6 years and they came into our open office and shared their news and excitement with our whole team. It was a very proud moment for the customer, therapist and team alike.
What are your hopes for the future of programs like Go for Goals at Rocky Bay?? Are there any exciting programs in the works?
We have a passionate and innovative team of therapists within Rocky Bay and I know that we will continue to adapt programs like Go for Goals to ensure we are offering services that our customers both want and need.
Three things you like to do outside of work?
- I love spending time with my family and friends
- Being an active part of my children’s extra circular activities, such as, basketball coach, football team manager and everything in between.
- I love going on holidays, from exploring our state camping to international escapes.
