Meet Victoria (aka Vicki) Duffy, Team leader at our brand new specialist disability accommodation (SDA) in Yangebup, which opened in September 2022.
Our Yangebup SDA is a stylish three bedroom, two bathroom villa with accessible features and technology built in to support our newly moved in customers. Their beautiful new home features automatic doors, height adjustable facilities and ceiling hoists, designed for high physical support.
Vicki started with Rocky Bay as a Support Worker in 2017. Since then, she has supported customers based at our supported accommodation homes in Thornlie, Cooloongup, and Yangebup, before taking on the role acting as Team Leader at our Yangebup SDA.
Get to know Vicki and her role with Rocky Bay a little better with our Q&A!
How did you first come to join Rocky Bay?
I first started in 2017 at our supported accommodation in Thornlie. However soon after I had to leave to go to the U.K to help look after my dad who was unwell.
I returned in 2018 as a casual Support Worker, and I worked in most of the supported accommodation homes south of the river. I also did some maternity cover at our supported accommodation in Cooloongup. When one of the team at our Yangebup supported accommodation left I took on a full time role as a Support Worker.
Tell us more about your role and what it involves?
Normally I am a Support Worker which involves direct work with my customers. This could include personal care, taking my customers to appointments or out for lunch – the things we all do every day.
At the moment, I am acting as Team Leader at our Yangebup home for a short time, which involves a lot more administration.
Describe what a typical day looks like for you?
My day starts with checking in on our customers and staff to ensure they are all well. I check up on the roster and find staff to fill shifts if required. Also the admin, such as checking emails and prioritising my work load.
Tell us more about your previous experience before Rocky Bay?
I used to work as an Account Manager for a global company. My role was to move employees and families around the world, booking their flights, accommodation – anything they required.
What do you love most about your role at Rocky Bay?
I love being able to support my customers live their best lives.
What do you love to do in your free time?
I love cooking, walking with my dogs, gardening, and socialising with family and friends.
What are three things you can’t live without and why?
- My dogs – I love spending time with them
- Cheese and olives – I love these…in fact I love all food
- My garden – I love to sit in the garden and take in all the noises…the birds, the frogs, and the crickets
