Rocky Bay and Perth’s FRINGE WORLD Festival team up to showcase ‘Our Secret Garden’ – a group exhibition highlighting the work of artists living with a disability.

Located in Central Park from Monday 22 January to Friday 2 February, this exhibition is an immersive journey promoting the sense of community that comes from collaboration.

The exhibition is an important collaboration, allowing the artists, all Rocky Bay customers, the opportunity to showcase their art to new and diverse audiences.

One Rocky Bay artist who will be featured is Carolyn Shervill, with her piece ‘Just Give It A Burl’ on display.

Carolyn’s piece encapsulates her sense of adventure and humour by incorporating two of her favourite mediums of ceramics and poetry.

The art piece is a ceramic vase with accompanying A4 size paper to be placed under sculpture.

The text adorning the decorative vase portrays Carolyn’s approach to poetry and art which is full of life and humour, showing her courage to ‘Just Give It A Burl’ when faced with a task that may be out of your depth.

Rocky Bay Chief Community Officer Anne-Marie Cox said the collaboration with FRINGE WORLD Festival represented an incredible opportunity for Rocky Bay customers.

“For our artists, the ability to exhibit their creations to the wider public carries profound significance and opens doors to artistic opportunities,” Ms Cox said.

“Exhibitions such as these give our customers an artistic voice and provides a space for self-expression.

“It enriches our customers lives as well as evolving Western Australia’s art culture,” Ms Cox concluded.

This is the second time Rocky Bay has collaborated with the FRINGE WORLD Festival following a successful debut in early 2023.

FRINGE WORLD’s open-access festival ensures anyone can participate and provides enduring benefits for artists.

Importantly, this exhibition provides our artists an opportunity to showcase to audiences they would otherwise not be able to reach.
