Emergency relief, life-changing impact
At Rocky Bay’s Ascot Hub, support worker Brad and customer Ruth have a shared love of music.
Brad, who has a background in musical comedy and plays several instruments, spends time supporting Ruth in the music room, playing music and creating lyrics.
Brad’s approach to supporting Ruth is all about her preferences.
Lately, Ruth has been enjoying their music sessions together, where Brad plays various instruments, including a didgeridoo and harmonica. Ruth joins in on percussion and singing while Brad strums the guitar.
They’ve even written songs together, filled with fun and silly lyrics inspired by their conversations, including one titled ‘tissues.’ Ruth loves boxes of tissues!
One of Ruth’s favourite songs is singing “Waltzing Matilda,” which always brings a smile to her face.
The rule in their music room is simple: if you come in, you’ve got to join in by singing along when you can. It’s a space where everyone can get involved and have fun.
Brad’s flexibility and dedication mean that their time together is always tailored to Ruth’s wishes.
Whether it’s lively music or a chill session with softer tunes, Brad ensures that Ruth’s interests are at the forefront, making their musical adventures a highlight of her day.
