The Wishing Tree helping Darryl create magic

The Wishing Tree has created magic again, granting customer Darryl new art materials, helping him paint the sky! 

Darryl is a proud Indigenous man, who grew up in Kepa Kurl (Esperance) WA and moved to Perth in his early teenage years. Darryl has only recently discovered his creative flare and has made up for lost time getting stuck into it.  

Support worker Ariel Katzir, says that Darryl is working towards some amazing things with his new materials.  

“The biggest thank you from Darryl for all the goodies and granting his wish, armed with his treasure trove of fresh supplies he has embarked on a whirlwind of artistic flow,” says Ariel.  

Darryl is a studio customer who enjoys spending his time creating amazing artworks and thanks to the funding, he can have his art supplies with him whenever he feels inspired.   

With limited spoken words, Darryl uses Art to connect with others and express his thoughts, showing the pure rawness of his work.  

Painting helps Darryl feel grounded and connected. An activity that he looks forward to doing in his daily life. With all the support from his friends and community Darryl has a bright creative future.  

His artistic career has been influenced by joining various art classes run by DADA and one-on-one art sessions with an art teacher. Being taught through different art programs allowed Darryl to pick up a few different techniques along the way.   

With this generous grant, Darryl is creating artwork for three upcoming shows that will captivate all audiences allowing him to unleash his creativity in unprecedented ways.  

Ariel spoke on the upcoming opportunities for Darryl, saying he will take part in the ‘As We Are’ exhibition a celebration of diversity through art, the ‘Artist of the Month Wall’ showcase, and a special inclusion in the Fremantle Art Centre Indigenous collection, honouring Indigenous culture and heritage.  

“With these exciting exhibitions now firmly on the horizon, Darryl’s artist profile is on the rise, and he is poised to make a significant impact on the art world” says Ariel.  

The Wishing Tree played a pivotal role in this journey, and Darryl extends his gratitude to The Wishing Tree for making his artistic dreams come true.
