Enteral Feeding (PEG Feeding)

This course is tailored for support workers who assist clients with enteral feeding and management, specifically those who receive nutrition via a PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tube or PEJ (Percutaneous Endoscopic Jejunostomy), as outlined in their support plan. The course develops the essential knowledge required to manage several types of tubes, feeding regimes and care of the insertion site and PEG/PEJ tube.

Covering topics such as:

  • Anatomy of the gastrointestinal system
  • Overview of gastrostomies including low profile feeding devices and PEG tubes
  • Understand indications for gastrostomy
  • Care of the client and your responsibilities with a gastrostomy & jejunostomy
  • Stoma care and infection prevention control
  • Complications of a PEG
  • Care of the stoma site
  • Feeding via a gastrostomy tube, including bolus and continuous pump feeds
  • Medication administration via PEG-Tube
